Strategic Asset Management Plan

Consultation has concluded

Thank you for helping to shape our Strategic Asset Management Plan

Glenorchy City Council owns and maintains a diverse asset portfolio, worth approximately $1 billion. Our assets include items such as roads, footpaths, stormwater drains, buildings, playgrounds, parks and reserves and much more.

We aim to maintain the condition of our existing assets over the long term, provide assets that meet community demand and provide a value for money service that maximises the life of our existing assets.

Our Strategic Asset Management Plan is designed to be a document for the Glenorchy community. We want you to:

  • Understand what assets we own
  • Know how they are performing and how we manage them
  • Understand our goals and financial projections

Thank you to community members for providing feedback on the draft Strategic Asset Management Plan. Council officers have read and considered all of the comments provided through our consultation in May. Your feedback has helped us make some changes to the document:

  1. We have improved the Executive Summary so that it includes all the critical information you need in a simple summary for easy access at the front of the document.
  2. We have highlighted that our city requires investment for disability access.
  3. We have highlighted the importance of active transport options including walking and cycling.
  4. We have added captions to the photographs used.

NEXT STEPS: The SAMP will be discussed at the upcoming July Council meeting (31st July), for more information on the outcomes from the Council meeting please visit: https://www.gcc.tas.gov.au/council/council-meetings/minutes-and-agendas/

Thank you for working with us on this important document - it will be used over the next four years to provide guidance and direction for Council’s asset management and developing our capital works program.

Should you have any enquiries regarding the project, please contact our Manager Assets, Engineering and Design, Patrick Marshall on 03 6216 6800 or via email: gccmail@gcc.tas.gov.au

  • SAMP Breakdown

Glenorchy City Council aims to provide the services needed by the Glenorchy community in a financially sustainable way. Achieving this requires balancing service levels with cost and risk. We want you to have your say on how we do this.

We've extended the survey deadline so you can have your say and ask any questions you may have. You can download the Draft Strategic Asset Management Plan (SAMP) and take our short survey. Or please contact our Manager Infrastructure, Engineering and Design, Patrick Marshall via 6216 6800 or gccmail@gcc.tas.gov.au. Survey closes 5pm Monday 1 May.

We know these plans and documents can be a lot to take in, so here's a breakdown of some of the information in the SAMP:

    What Assets Do We Have?

Page 10 lists the 'assets' that Council manages. Assets are items of property owned by Council that have value (like roads, footpaths, buildings, playgrounds etc.)
These assets provide the foundation for the community to carry out everyday life, and contribute to overall quality of life.

    State Of Our Assets

Page 15 & 16 provide lots of information on the state of our assets and what it costs to maintain them over years. There are a lot of graphs and numbers! Feel free to call us if you would like to ask any questions.

    Asset Management Objectives and Vision

Page 22 & 23 detail the actions we will deliver to make sure we are matching community expectations. You can also find information here on how we will develop and maintain assets in order to provide the level of service the community need at present and into the future (page 30-32 also detail how we will manage future demand).

    Community Satisfaction
In order to continuously gain a better understanding of community satisfaction in Glenorchy, Council has decided to undertake an annual survey on satisfaction levels. On page 26 you can see the results of the Future Direction and Budget Survey that guides the SAMP.

    Risk Management

If Risk Management is your thing pages 39-42 detail our risk assessment and treatment processes.
