Glenorchy City Council is seeking submissions from community service providers with at least two years experience, to manage and deliver the Multicultural Hub Service at 65 Hopkins Street Moonah, as a transitional space for the multicultural community with a particular focus on the needs of newer and less established cultural groups.

Applications close 9 am Monday 26th July 2021

Multicultural Hub Background

Glenorchy City, located in the northern part of the Greater Hobart Region, is characterised by its high representation of multicultural communities arising from historic and recent waves of migration. The Tasmanian Government provided funding to Glenorchy City Council in 2015 to develop the Multicultural Community Spaces Plan for the City of Glenorchy. The Plan’s purpose is to identify solutions to meet the varying needs of different multicultural groups for spaces and facilities in Glenorchy that will support their community, cultural and religious activities.

One of the key recommendations from the Multicultural Spaces Plan was for Council to provide the use of its venue at 65 Hopkins Street, Moonah to become a multicultural hub for the City for a minimum of five years. In 2016, Council approved the Hopkins Street venue for this purpose.

The Hub is available as a transitional space for groups to use for cultural events and activities with priority access given to new and emerging migrant communities.

The current service agreement is expiring soon, therefore Council is seeking submissions from eligible incorporated, community-based, not for profit organisations to continue delivery of this service for a further two years (2021-22 and 2022-23).

The grant funding of $100,000 provided by the Tasmanian Government to Glenorchy City Council, will be provided to the successful organisation to employ a part-time Community Development position to manage the Hub operations.
