What is a parklet?
A parklet is a small public space created as an extension of the footpath. Parklets typically include seating, planting and other features that provide places for people to sit, gather and spend time.
Parklets are designed to improve the comfort, attractiveness and activity of main streets while creating opportunities for people to enjoy local businesses and public spaces.
Why is Glenorchy City Council considering parklets in Moonah?
The proposed parklet trial is one of the streetscape improvement opportunities identified through previous consultation and planning for the Moonah CBD, specifically, the Greater Glenorchy Plan 2021 and Moonah CBD Precinct Plan.

Is this a permanent change?
No.
The proposal is for a trial parklet project. Trial projects allow Council and the community to test new ideas, understand how they are used and gather feedback before making decisions about any future long-term changes. The trial will run for 2 years.
What will happen to parking?
The draft concept design requires proposes changes to existing on-street parking and loading arrangements in the immediate vicinity of the proposed parklets.
Parking and customer access were key considerations during development of the concept design.
Will loading and servicing still be possible?
The concept design has been developed to maintain access for servicing and deliveries where possible.
How will the parklets be maintained?
Maintenance and management arrangements will be considered as part of the ongoing planning and implementation of the trial.
Consultation with businesses highlighted the importance of regular cleaning, maintenance and upkeep to support the long-term success of the parklets.
