FAQs
Why did the Tasmanian Government make this new law?
The "Child and Youth Safe Organisations Framework" is the new Tasmanian law which has been developed since the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. Other states such as Victoria and NSW have already made a similar law.
These laws mean that any organisation which has any contact with children MUST have strong and clear processes for responding to child safety concerns, and organisations must also have a child-friendly way to report child safety concerns.
Many organisations that work with children and young people, like schools, have already done the work to meet the National Child Safety Standards.
How do I know if my business or organisation is also affected by this new law?
Visit the Tasmanian Government Department of Justice website to find out if your organisation will be affected by this new law.
