SPEED LIMIT CHANGES APPROVED AND TO BE IMPLEMENTED
The Transport Commissioner has approved the speed limit changes which will be implemented the week of the 12 February 2024. The speed limit signs will be changed and at the same time, 'new speed limit ahead' signs installed to let drivers know that the speed limit has changed.
BACKGROUND
Glenorchy City Council is dedicated to enhancing the overall quality, user experience, and safety of our road network, prioritising the well-being of all road users. An essential element in achieving this is effective speed management, which plays a crucial role in elevating the safety of our roadways. Council is proposing a series of strategic changes to speed limits, with the aim of encouraging a safer environment for everyone.
CONSULTATION HAS NOW ENDED (Closed 5pm Sunday 8 October 2023).
At its November meeting, Council endorsed a proposal to reduce speed limits in 5 locations across the municipality, for submission to the Commissioner for Transport. The roads that are recommended to be reduced from 60km/h to 50km/h are:
Main Road, extending from Abbotsfield Road to Stony Point Drive
Marys Hope Road, extending from Crosby Road to Berriedale Road
Berriedale Road, from Catherine Street to Marys Hope Road
Barossa Road, covering the section from Tolosa Street to Bimburra Road
Roads identified to be set at a permanent 40km/h include:
Main Road within the Moonah Central Business District, encompassing the area between Amy Street and Florence Street
Council has written to the Commissioner for Transport who approves any speed limit changes.
