An example drawing of a shared path.

Main Road Granton Shared Path

Glenorchy City Council is planning to construct a new shared pathway link along Main Road from the New Bridgewater Bridger to the existing path near Akamas Drive, over the coming years.

This project aims to construct of a 2.5m wide concrete shared pathway on the Derwent River side of Main Road from Akamas Drive, Granton up to the New Bridgewater Bridge shared pathway.

A plan indicating the extent of proposed works and location of parking, is available for download from the Documents section.

Who can use a shared path?

Shared paths are areas open to the public that are designated for use by both pedestrians and bike riders.

What other works are being completed?

In addition to the pathway, kerb and gutter on the eastern side of road will be provided, the road alignment will be improved, bus stop layby areas will be provided as well as indented parking.

Will there be a loss parking?

The construction of the pathway will remove some parking on the eastern side of the road and formalise parking on the western side of the road.

When will the works start?

The first stage of works from the southern end, is planned to commence in mid 2024.

During construction there will be some restrictions to through traffic and property access. Council is aware of the inconvenience that can occur when works are carried out in the road reserve and will endeavour to minimise the effects during construction.

This consultation has now closed.

Council will now review the feedback received and incorporate into the final design where appropriate.
