Let's Talk about allowing apartments on Main Road Glenorchy
During 2022 Council sought feedback on a potential change to the Commercial Zone along Main Road (between the Moonah and Glenorchy CBD areas).
This change would allow apartments to be built above or behind ground floor shops and businesses in that zone, creating a greater diversity of housing in the bustling hubs of our city.
The Moonah and Glenorchy CBDs offer great access to transport, services and shops. Allowing apartments in these areas will help provide more housing in easy reach of jobs and services. But we need to ensure we are not restricting commercial activity in the zone.
Feedback was sought on:
Do you support allowing apartments in parts of the Commercial Zone?
Where should apartments be located? Moonah and Glenorchy activity centre Main Road? Derwent Park Road?
Should apartments always be above ground, with commercial floor space at ground level?
What concerns do you have about allowing apartments in the Commercial Zone?
Are apartments an opportunity or risk to your site or business?
How can apartments best support jobs and economic activity across the City?
What standards might be needed to minimise the impacts of apartment development on your business?
More information
The flyer provides a summary of what parts of the Commercial Zone we are considering for this change. More detail on why this option is being considered and potential planning standards is available in this booklet.
Consultation closed 21 March 2022.
