Let's Talk - Greater Hobart Plan

Consultation has concluded

Planning for Greater Hobart's future - Survey and submissions closed 5pm, Monday 20 June 2022

The Greater Hobart Plan

The Greater Hobart Plan has been prepared under the Greater Hobart Act 2019, at the request of the Greater Hobart Committee.

This Plan is the first time that transport, housing and precinct planning have been brought together in a spatially integrated manner. This will allow for better planning for business and employment growth, recreation and environmental management, protect farmland and for climate change. In the short term, the Plan will be used to inform and update to the Southern Tasmania Regional Land Use Strategy (STRLUS).

The purpose of the Greater Hobart Act 2019 is to create a more liveable, accessible and productive Greater Hobart area. Through this framework, the Greater Hobart Councils – Clarence, Glenorchy, Hobart and Kingborough – and the Tasmanian Government will work collaboratively to identify principles, priority areas and implement actions that will deliver strategic, efficient and integrated land use planning, and infrastructure outcomes.

With an additional 60,000 people expected to call Greater Hobart home over the next 30 years, it is vital that we plan and deliver housing, services and infrastructure to maintain the historical small-city roots and connectivity which makes Hobart and its surrounds so unique.

Once finalised, the Greater Hobart Plan will inform an update to the Southern Tasmania Regional Land Use Strategy. As well as urban consolidation, it is expected that the Plan will identify areas for future growth, which may result in adjustments to the current urban growth boundary.
