- Kerb Zone - 0.6m from kerb for opening car doors or clearance from passing vehicles (1.5m accessible parking and 1m loading space)
- Walkway Zone - section of the footpath to remain clear of obstacles, generally immediately adjacent to the building line
- CBD and High Pedestrian Streets coming off CBD – Minimum 1.8m (Squeeze Point Minimum 1.5m for no more than 3m)
- Local Residential Streets – Minimum 1.2m (Squeeze Point Minimum 1m for no more than 3m)
- Trading Zone – this is what’s left, likely minimum 0.6m that can be used for trading for A-frame signs, outside dining or sale of goods:
- with gaps between to get from parked cars to walking zone
- 1m distance from pedestrian infrastructure ie seats, bins
- 0.5m distance from other infrastructure ie poles, signs, service pits
What is the walking zone, kerb zone and trading zone?
The footpath is divided into 3 zones being walking zone, kerb zone and trading zone.
To ensure the safe passage of pedestrians and drivers, Footpath Trading cannot occur within 6m of an intersection or 2m of a driveway or pedestrians crossing.
Do I need a permit for A-frame signs?
A-board or portable advertising signs do not require a permit as long as they are placed on our footpaths within the trading zone in accordance with the policy and guidelines.
How do I apply for outdside dining and the display of goods?
An application form will be available in which the applicant will need to supply plans of existing area and proposal, along with information on furniture and any advertising.
If accepted by Council, the applicant will need Providing Proof of Public Liability Insurance in the amount of $20,000,000 noting Council’s interest, sign a “Form of Indemnity’ and pay an annual fee currently set at $44/m2.
