Sport and recreation are key elements of the City of Glenorchy's social fabric and its character. Council recognises the important role sport and recreation plays in making lives better by providing the opportunities to be active that our community values.

In March 2021, Council set about developing a long-term vision and framework for providing and managing its sport and recreation facilities and spaces. A strategy to assist meeting the sport and recreation needs of the Glenorchy community now, and into the future,

Over a six week period during March and April Council, community members and a range of local, regional and state associations and organisations were invited to provide feedback around sport and recreation activities and facilities. Thanks to everyone who provided input.

Council has developed a Sport and Recreation Framework to guide the provision of sport, recreation and facility development to 2040. Together with an analysis of community needs, trends and current and future infrastructure and services, feedback from community and key stakeholders has helped inform the Framework.

Council endorsed the Sport and Recreation Framework 2040 - Active Glenorchy. A link to the final Framework can be accessed by clicking here.

Throughout the consultation, here are some things we asked you to consider...

  • View the list of the facilities we assessed on page 53 of the Draft Strategy. If a facility you use isn't on this list, please provide feedback about facilities you use.
  • For some facilities, site specific recommendations have been made. See Draft Strategy pages 47-51. Please take a look at these and let us know what you think.
  • For many existing facilities no changes are proposed and therefore no site specific recommendations are included. For these facilities the general recommendation is that Council and users continue to maintain the current level of service and renew assets as they reach the end of their useful life.

This consultation closed 9am Monday 9 August. Thank you to those who provided feedback. Your input will help us finalise the Sport and Recreation Strategy.
