Claremont Skatepark/Pumptrack Project
The results are in from the consultation on what facility the community would like as the replacement for the Claremont Skatepark – and the winner is a Pump Track and Mini-ramp/Halfpipe with 68% (170) of the votes!
The Council team will now be working to deliver this project at Windermere Park with close access to parking, other recreational facilities, new public toilets, the cycleway, bus routes and the Claremont CBD – as shown in the attached.
Council is grateful for the funding support from the State Government’s Open Spaces Grant Program to help make this project happen.
Updates on the project will be provided in the coming months on Council’s website - www.gcc.tas.gov.au/sport-and-recreation-projects/

The Claremont Skatepark at Abbotsfield Park requires closure due its age and condition. Council recognises that this is an important facility for local youth that ride skateboards, scooters and bikes, and is committed to building a replacement facility.
A number of concerns have been raised with the existing location at Abbotsfield Park due to its isolation and lack of support infrastructure. Council is planning the replacement facility at Windermere Bay, as this is located very close to the Claremont CBD, the cycleway, public transport, recreation infrastructure, and the new public toilets that are under construction.
Council is considering two different options for the replacement facility:
- Option 1 - Pumptrack and a halfpipe/mini-ramp
- Option 2 - Skatepark similar to what has recently been developed at Montrose Foreshore
Before progressing the project, Council is keen to hear which option the local community prefer. Both options will be designed to be suitable for local youth that ride skateboards, scooters and bikes.
