Investigation into the potential disposal of part of 10 Bucaan Street, Chigwell
Glenorchy City Council has sought feedback from the community about the potential disposal of Council owned land at part of 10 Bucaan Street, Chigwell (the Land) by way of donation to Bucaan Community House, which is outlined in red below.
The community consultation process has concluded and feedback from the investigation will be considered by Council at its July Council Meeting, Monday, 28 July 2025 from 3:30pm. For your reference, the report is available via Council’s ‘Minutes and Agendas’ webpage: https://www.gcc.tas.gov.au/council/council-meetings/minutes-and-agendas/. If approved, the next stage of the process will be for officers to advertise the disposal formally through a section 178 process set out in the Local Government Act 1993. This will be advertised via Council’s website and Facebook page as well as in the Mercury, in the Council Chambers and a notice placed on the property to provide all residents with the opportunity to object to any proposal.
The land is zoned as Community Purpose. The area of land requested is approximately 850 sqm and is directly adjacent to Bucaan Community House.
Bucaan Community House provide essential services to the local community and need to expand their current building in order to provide for a growth in services. Should Council approve the investigations and subsequent property disposal of part of 10 Bucaan Street, Chigwell, the additional land would enable Bucaan Community House to pursue expansion of their facility and services to the community.
